Pedrito Martinez Live at the Banlieues Bleues 2017
Pedrito Martinez, voice, percussions
Edgar Pantoja-Aleman, voice, keyboards
Alvaro Benavides, voice, bass
Jhair Sala, voice, bongos
The most popular Cuban percussionist in New York brings a fresh new take on latin jazz.
For a long time, this drummer-and-singer, brought up on Batá drums and the Santeria cult in Havana, was an ardent sideman with Bruce Springsteen, Meshell Ndegeocello and Sting.
The following years in residence at a Manhattan restaurant made him the charismatic leader of a fusion quartet.
Deeply attached to the Afro-cuban dance and Yoruba prayers of his youth, Pedrito Martinez fuses them with the soul, pop and rock sounds of New York.
A heady Afro-cuban mix.

Christian Sands Trio - Jazz ā la Villette
Christian Sands Trio - 'Tribute to Erroll Garner'
Christian Sands (piano)
Terreon Gully (drums)
Luques Curtis (bass)
Whereas he has just released a really great album, Facing Dragons only a few months ago, the pianist Christian Sands is presenting to kick off the season a new repertoire as a tribute to Erroll Garner : one of the most important figures in the history of jazz, he who established the form of the ' piano trio ' in the modern era, only just before Bill Evans. So he is reaching for a very high goal. And you can bet that the challenge will be met with brio, because the young American is one of the most talented pianists of his generation : protégé of the immense late Billy Taylor, taken on by Christian McBride at 20, recognised by Wynton Marsalis who saw in him one of the grate heirs of the tradition, Christian Sands does actually possess an instrumental language which alludes to the whole history of his instrument, but still succeeds in remaining extremely modern.

The Rosenberg Family Project - Jazz in Marciac
The Rosenberg Family Project
The Rosenbergs
Mozes Rosenberg guitar solo
Johnny Rosenberg rythmic guitar
Sani van Mullem double bass
The Rosenberg trio
Stochelo Rosenberg guitar solo
Nonnie Rosenberg double bass
In the world of gipsy jazz, Stochelo Rosenberg stands out as a virtuoso tempered by a natural elegance meaning he never overdoes things. With him, the competitive cutting guitar playing mixes in with a kind of nervous and swinging poetry where the themes from the traditional repertoire alternate with the most unexpected revivals. In the Rosenberg family, everyone is made for extended improvisation, they devote themselves to their high-speed chases with such elegance and implication that we find ourselves rediscovering pleasures procured through this craftsmanship of oral transmission, served up by devils who play like gods

David Murray Infinity Quartet feat. Saul Williams - Banlieues Bleues
After soul sister Macy Gray, with whom he recorded an album, the ever-inventive saxophonist brings us a brand new body of work inspired by the slam poetry of Saul Williams. DAVID MURRAY tenor saxophone, bass clarinett, ORIN EVANS piano, JARIBU SHAHID bass, NASHEET WAITS drums, SAUL WILLIAMS voice
He appears with the Infinity Quartet, named after his early years at the Infinity loft-studio in New York, and with Saul Williams himself. A great choice: over the past fifteen years, the star of the independent film 'Slam' has been standing out among rappers and slam poets with the quality of his writing and the intensity of his performances. His punch lines make him a unique performer - a remarkable poet with a powerful rap-soul voice. In David Murray, who previously worked with writers Amiri Baraka and Ishmael Reed, Williams has found an ideal partner. A match made in heaven.

Roberto Fonseca - Jazz in Marciac
Roberto Fonseca
Roberto Fonseca piano, claviers
Joe Lovano saxophone
Yandy Martinez contrebasse, basse
Ruly Herrera batterie
Andres Coayo Batista percussions
Omara Portuondo voix
Mayra Andrade voix
Rossio Jimenez Blanco chur
Like all musicians born in Cuba and having grown-up in Havana, Roberto Fonseca came out of school ready for work. This multi-disciplinary aptitude enabled numerous projects and encounters. His contribution to Latin music was to have extended his roots into contemporary expression, often with instrumentation closer to that of modern jazz, and this, whilst not losing one ounce of poetry. Because it really is this capacity to make his public dream which characterises this composer/singer/arranger that his female admirers recognise from afar because of the hat which never leaves him and close up by the harmonious lines of his face. Adding on successes in Marciac like so many pearls on his musical necklace, Roberto Fonseca could almost stake claim to having the status of an event organiser. Using ingredients which guarantee his artistic longevity in the domain of Afrocubanism, he put on stage a new group of which the guests are Omara Portuondo, Mayra Andrade, Joe Lovano and an orchestra of pupils from the conservatoires of the Occitanie Region, conducted by Jean-Pierre Peyrebelle.

LLaurent Bardainne ' Tigre d'Eau Douce '
Laurent Bardainne (Tenor saxophone )
Arnaud Roulin (Hammond organ)
Sylvain Daniel (bass)
Philippe Gleizes (drums)
Tenor saxophonist, Laurent Bardainne is one of the most discreet and yet active musicians on the Paris scene. It is difficult not to come across him when you like jazz and its related music : we can hear him in the Supersonic by Thomas de Pourquery, alongside Camélia Jordana with Lost, with his rock group Poni Hoax, in the electro detours Sabrina & Samantha, and even at the heart of Limousine, with whom he released an excellent recording in the spring. L'Été suivant. Laurent Bardainne comes back today with this incredibly free quartet, entitled Tigre d'Eau Douce. Music which recalls Albert Ayler's Laments and John Coltrane's freeest hours, all of which is crisscrossed by ballads and soothing moments in the colours of Soul spirituality played out on the Hammond B3 organ by Arnaud Roulin.

Shabaka Hutchings 'The comet is coming' - Like a Jazz Machine
The comet is coming
Shabaka Hutchings, saxophone ténor
Dan Leavers, synthétiseur
Max Hallet, batterie
Sixty years after Sun Ra released his debut album, the influence of the late avant garde jazz musician and 'cosmic philosopher' persists. Sun Ra is a clear touchstone for futurists band The Comet is coming. They're formed of saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings (aka King Shabaka), and the two members of Soccer96: synths guy Dan Leavers (aka Danalogue The Conqueror) and drums man Maxwell Hallett (aka Betamax Killer). Formed in 2013 after saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings spontaneously joined funk duo Soccer96 on stage, the trio combines Sun Ra's mythological themes and love of the experimental, whipping up a fusion of jazz, Afrobeat and electronica in an improvisational, intergalactic mash-upstyle, starting with an orthodox jazz sensibility and taking it to the dancefloor. For millennia, humankind has viewed comets as harbingers of doom, portents of change and destruction. The Comet Is Coming are here to recognize these world-altering prophecies and to help us dance like it's the end of the world.
